Humphrey Fellowship has received dollar-for-dollar funding as a Fulbright exchange activity from the U.S. In 1978, Congress passed a resolution to honor Hubert H. Humphrey’s (1911-1978) career as a member of Congress.
A longtime promoter of international understanding, Humphrey served from 1965 to 1969 as Vice President of the United States and for many years as an American diplomat. Minnesota senator.

Details on the scholarship

Fellowships are placed at participating universities in the USA. The university that a fellow attends cannot be chosen by the fellow.
Instead, they are distributed in groups of 7-15 to appropriate host institutions according to their expertise and field.

The requirements

A candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • An undergraduate (first university) degree,
  • A minimum of five years of full-time, professional experience
  • Limited or no prior experience in the United States,
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities,
  • A record of public service in the community, and
  • English language ability

Reward and Duration

Among the benefits of the Fellowship:

  • Payment of the tuition and fees at the assigned host university;
  • English language training for pre-academic work if required;

In addition to a maintenance (living) allowance, there is a one-time moving-in allowance.
Coverage for accidents and illnesses;

  • A book allowance;
  • A one-time computer subsidy;

International air travel in and out of the U.S. for the program as well as domestic travel to required program events;

  • A Professional Development allowance for professional activities, such as field trips, visits to conferences, and more.

Usually, application deadlines fall between May and September each year. The nominating U.S. Your Embassy or the Binational Fulbright Commission will inform you of its internal deadline for receiving applications. In order to submit nominations to the Institute for International Education, the Embassies and Commissions must forward them by October 1.
